Laser removal works by shattering pigment particles into fragments small enough for your immune system to carry away. The laser does the breaking; your body does the clearing. That is why sessions are spaced a minimum of eight to twelve weeks apart — the interval is not the laser recovering, it is your lymphatic system doing the work, and the longer you leave it, the more has cleared before the next pass.
Permanent makeup behaves differently to body ink. PMU pigments are varied in composition, sit shallower in the skin, and can shift colour when treated, which is why brow and eyeliner removal calls for a cautious approach and a patch test rather than a full pass on the first visit.
Not every tattoo clears completely. Ink colour, depth, age, layering, and where it sits on the body all affect the outcome. The provider will give you an honest estimate of the session count and the likely end point at consultation, including when fading for a cover-up is the more sensible goal.

Step 01
Assessment and patch test
Ink type, colour, depth, and age are assessed and a realistic session estimate is given. For PMU, a small patch test is standard before committing to a full session.
Step 02
Treatment
Each pass is quick — most tattoos take only minutes. The sensation is a sharp snapping, and cooling is used throughout. Expect immediate whitening of the treated area, which fades within the hour.
Step 03
Healing between sessions
Redness, swelling, and scabbing are normal for several days. Keep the area clean, covered, and out of the sun. The next session follows a minimum of eight to twelve weeks later, once your body has cleared what it can. Waiting longer than the minimum only helps.

How many sessions does removal take?
It varies widely. Small, single-colour amateur tattoos may clear in a handful of sessions; dense, layered, or multi-colour professional work can take considerably more. PMU brows often need fewer sessions than body ink but are approached more cautiously.
Does it hurt?
It is more uncomfortable than most aesthetic treatments — a rapid snapping sensation, similar to a rubber band. Sessions are short, cooling is used, and numbing can be discussed beforehand.
Will my tattoo disappear completely?
Sometimes, but not always. Black and dark blue ink respond best; some greens, light blues, and cosmetic pigments are far more stubborn. A faint shadow can remain, and you will get an honest assessment of the likely end point before starting.
Why do sessions need to be at least eight to twelve weeks apart?
Because the clearing is done by your immune system, not the laser. Eight to twelve weeks is the minimum, and the longer you wait between sessions the better — your body keeps clearing pigment the whole time. Treating too soon does not speed anything up and increases the risk of unwanted skin reactions.
Can PMU brows change colour when treated?
Some cosmetic pigments contain iron or titanium oxides that can shift on contact with laser energy, sometimes leaving a reddish or orange hue. This is exactly why a patch test is done first — so any reaction is discovered on a small area rather than across both brows. If a reddish hue does appear, we have a specific laser that targets that pigment and clears it.
Will it scar?
Scarring is uncommon when settings are appropriate and aftercare is followed. Picking scabs is the most common cause of a poor cosmetic outcome, so leave the area alone while it heals.
